Predator - Billy's Death

Billy decides to make his final stand. Like he said earlier "we're all gonna die," so he strips to his waist and cuts his chest in a ritualistic way, ready to die. Later, all we hear is Billy screaming in the distance. Billy was a badass and for him to be screaming like that, it made the scene all the more terrifying. The best part comes soon after when we see the Predator rip out his spine and keep his skull as a trophy.

Predator - Dillon's Death

Carl Weathers plays Dillon, the mistrusted outsider and former teammate of Dutch who is now pushing pencils for the CIA. Dillon's death scene gives us one of the best special effects shots in the film: a severed arm with a still firing gun gripped falling to the ground in slow motion. As the Predator comes to finish him off, Dillon goes for his other weapon. The Predator deploys his wrist gauntlet and impales Dillon, lifting him up into the air. Dillon then proceeds to give out the manliest death scream ever.

Predator - Mac's Death

Mac brings a certain level of intensity and emotional impact to the film. The supercool badass whispers every line and works his razor to death. Mac has the most depth than any of the others characters in the film. After Blain's death, he loses it and from that moment on he made it his own mission to kill what killed his best friend. From chasing the predator through the jungle singing Long Tall Sally to unloading "Ol' Painless" and leveling a good portion of the jungle. Mac might be the most underrated character in the film. Mac might also have the best death scene of the bunch. As Mac crawls under the log in hunt of the Predator, he spots three red dots on his arm. As Mac pokes his head out of his hiding spot, we get a camera shot directly behind his head before the Predator fires a plasma round and splatters his brains all over the camera lens. Classic!

Predator - Blain's Death

Jesse "the body" Ventura shines in his role as sergeant Blain. Equipped with a modified M134 minigun he calls "Ol' Painless" and an attitude, Blain's death sets up Mac's actions for the rest of the film and gives us our first main death scene. Along the way, the tobacco chewing, MTV shirt wearing soldier also manages to give us the classic line, "I ain't got time to bleed." While scouting the forest, Blain sees something in the bushes......and the fun begins.

Predator - Death Scenes

This week we will take a look at the death scenes from the epic 80's action flick, Predator. This movie has a number of strong elements, but what really makes the film work is the Predator himself. Kevin Peter Hall, the man under the suit brings the character of the Predator to life using only gestures and body language. The Predator is a killing machine, armed with wrist blades, a plasma caster with triangular laser rangefinder, and many other advanced technological weapons all used to give us some great death scenes.

Daybreakers - Death Scene

---Hungry Fellas?

Oh boy, what the hell happened to the vampire genre? I do give Daybreakers credit for being somewhat original with its intriguing premise, but the execution was a big missed opportunity. Our main protagonist, a vampire named Edward(no,I'm serious) is a hematologist looking for a blood substitute before the world's supply is depleted. He is employed by Bromley Marks, a pharmaceutical company that is the chief supplier of blood for the American population. The company is operated by bad guy Charles Bromley(Sam Neill) who prefers farming the last remaining humans for their blood. So far pretty good right? Yeah well I don't know what happened, maybe it was the insulting plot twists, the horrible "burning vampire" CGI, the forgettable dialog, the peekaboo subplots(Bromley's daughter), or the strange pacing of some scenes, but let's just say Sam Neill's death scene was the best part, so here it is...all you need to know is that Sam Neill was tricked into turning human, tied to a chair, and sent down an elevator where a massive group of vampire soldiers are waiting......

I did like the dark visual style of the movie, Willem Dafoe(although Shadow of the Vampire was his best vampire flick), the bloody violence... of course, the subsiders, the futuristic elements(even though a lot seemed to be borrowed from the 1993 film Demolition Man). But I was hoping the film was just a little deeper, maybe a broad satire for American consumerism and greed, but there is no hidden message in this film other than watch Let the Right One In again.

Akira - Kaori Gets Crushed

As Tetsuo's psychic power forces his body to horribly mutate and absorb it's surroundings, Kaori gets consumed and trapped within his bowels. Tetsuo, not being able to control how rapidly his body is mutating crushes poor Kaori with his ever expanding fat cells, drowning her in blood. I've provided a cute kitten representation of the scene below.

Inglourious Basterds- Hitler's Death

Did you really expect the Basterds to fail their mission just so Hitler can kill himself in a bunker with Eva Braun? Not in Tarantino's world. In Tarantino's world, Hitler was brutally gunned down in that theater. Quentin Tarantino fulfills historical fantasy by giving Adolf the final exit he so rightfully deserved. During the assassination attempt in the theater, Donny aka "The Bear Jew" and Omar gun Hitler and Goebbels down in the opera box. The money shot comes soon after when Donny(Eli Roth) unloads a whole clip into Adolf, blasting his face into pieces and we learn that movies are so empowering they can even alter history.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Carter gets Crushed

-----Oh Carter, we hardly knew ye.....

Part of the InGen team sent by Peter Ludlow. Carter has one of the most memorable deaths in the film and possibly the greatest crushed-by-a-giant-foot-death in movie history. Poor Carter meets his demise after his group of hunter-mercenaries are rudely awakened by a female T-rex. During the mad dash to escape the Theropod, Carter trips and falls. As he gets his head out of the mud and turns around, the Tyrannosaurus rex crushes him. Not only does he get squished, but he sticks to the underside of the dinosaur's foot as he gets crushed repeatedly every time the T-rex took a step.

But should we feel bad for Carter? After all, it was his screeching yell that freaked out the T-rex and ultimately caused his own demise. Also, if Carter was paying attention instead of jamming out to his headphones, Dieter would still be alive. When your best friend goes to pee in a jungle filled with carnivorous dinosaurs, you pay attention and wait for him god dammit.

Carter was played by Thomas Rosales Jr, some of you movie death fans may remember him as Chico, from the film Running Man. Actually, this guy has played in over a hundred films and he dies in most of them. We salute you...... Thomas Rosales Jr

Gladiator - Female Archer Splits

In a recreation of the Battle of Zama (in the film they call it the Battle of Carthage), Maximus leads Proximo's gladiators against a more powerful force dressed as Roman Legionnaires. The fight gets pretty bloody with plenty of great death scenes, but one fatality seems to stand out the most and make you yell out "gotcha bitch!" One of the chariots-equipped with wheel blades- gets flipped by Maximus and his men, sending a female archer to the ground. At the same time the driver of another chariot is killed, veering it toward our fallen victim. She raises her hands up and screams out before she is split in twain by the razor sharp wheel blades.

Dead Heat - Dead Again

One of the best on-screen decomposition death scenes, as if there are a lot of those. Keep in mind that this film came out one year earlier than Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Just a well done 80's B-movie special effect with no CGI.
SCENE STARTS AT 6:30

Another great death scene in the film. To evade being killed by zombie Detectives Roger Mortis(Treat Williams) and Doug Bigelow(Joe Piscopo), bad guy Dr. Ernest McNab kills himself.
"Ya cheated me....god damn you McNab YOU CHEATED ME!!!!!!"
Dissatisfied, Mortis and Bigelow reanimate Dr. McNab just to kill him again. This time they do it right and we find out what happens when you resurrect somebody twice.
SCENE STARTS AT 4:30

Did I mention horror veteran Vincent Price is in this film?
