Die Hard - Happy Trails, Hans

It's classic and probably the most overused(other than a gunshot) movie death in film. The fall. Variants on the death include landing on sharp objects, landscape features, or falling into oblivion. Hitchcock did it best, as he would show the character in free fall then cut to reaction shots. But the death fall really hadn't evolved since, that is until Die Hard came out in 1988. This time we get a climactic slow-motion release and a long one-shot free fall to the ground floor of Nakatomi Plaza. If movies have proved anything, it's that gravity is never your friend. Especially if you are a villain.

The best part of Gruber's death most people miss is the watch itself which McClane unclasps. It's the same watch Holly received as a bonus for her hard work at Nakatomi Plaza(which is why she is so distant from John). So, not only does McClane save the day and kill the bad guy, he also symbolically unclasps Holly Genero.

Yippie-ki-yay, muthaf#@%*r! translates in Urdu to "here eat this"

For the shot, Alan Rickman was actually falling from a 20-foot high model onto an air bag. To get the right reaction, the stunt man dropped Rickman on the count of two, not three.

John McTiernan was originally going to make Commando 2, but Arnold Schwarzenegger turned the role offer down. Commando 2 was transformed into Die Hard (1988) and Schwarzenegger was the first actor offered the title role, but he again declined. Eventually Bruce Willis would get the part after Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, and Richard Gere were all offered the role.

Goldfinger - Gold Suffocation

Shirley Eaton underwent two hours of make-up application which involved being gild painted to become a gold corpse. A doctor was on set at all times in fear of possible skin suffocation(despite popular belief skin suffocation can't occur)

Her shots lasted less than five minutes in the finished film and the filming wrapped in a morning's work. To remove the gold paint from all over her body, Shirley Eaton was scrubbed down by the wardrobe mistress and the make-up girl, and then had to sweat off the remaining gold in a number of Turkish baths.

Nightmare on Elm Street - Johnny Depp Blood Geyser

For the famous blood geyser scene, the film makers shot the sequence by turning the entire room upside-down on a gyro set and attaching the camera so that it looked like the room was right side up, then they poured gallons of red water into the room. (The normal movie blood wasn't able to create the right effect for the geyser.)

The spinning room turned incorrectly and caused a premature flood of "blood." According to the DVD commentary, the people pouring the "blood" were shocked when the wires were hit with the water and the room began to spin out of control. Wes Craven remarks that it was like the Ferris Wheel from hell. The power on the set went out and Craven said they were all in the dark and covered in blood.

Depp also makes a cameo in Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

Temple of Doom - Heart Rip Scene

One of the best all-time violent scenes from a PG rated movie. This clip from Temple of Doom is the main reason why we have a PG-13 rating. To this day, the scene is still censored in the UK. If it's one thing Spielberg and Lucus know how to do, it's how to off someone. Mola Ram chants to the Hindu goddess Kali for a human sacrifice. He then rips out our victims' heart and lowers him into a lava pit. As the victim descends into the hot magma, the still beating heart in Mola Rams' hand burst into flames. So let's recap: guy gets his heart ripped out, then is lowered into a vat of molten lava while still somehow alive. Now that's a movie death! Here's is the loose Hindu translation to Mola Rams chant:

bali chadhoge - (you) will be put up for sacrifice

bali mangti kali ma - mother kali asks for sacrifice

mukti degi kali ma - mother kali will give you freedom

kali ma (3 times) - mother kali

shakti de - give power/strength

bali chadhaoon tere aage - presenting sacrifice before you

sweekar karo - accept it (please)

Alien - Chestbuster Classic

This is the special extended version of the scene, with extra never-before-seen cuts.

Probably one of the most recognizable movie deaths in film history. In the scene, known as the "chestbuster" sequence, John Hurt stuck his head, shoulders and arms through a hole in the mess table, linking up with a mechanical torso that was packed with compressed air (to create the forceful exit of the alien) and lots of animal guts. The rest of the cast were not told that real guts were being used so as to provoke genuine reactions of shock and disgust.
