--Heads up!
Mak and Nak, a young newlywed couple in Bangkok, acquire an antique brooch and an old abandoned house that soon bring them into contact with the ghost of Mae Nak, a figure of horror from one of Thailand's most enduring ghost legends....and the fun begins
Ghost of Mae Nak does have some really cool death scenes that are reminiscent of the Final Destination movies, but much like the Final Destination movies....Ghost of Mae Nak just isn't very good, but that's not why we watch these films, is it? No.....It's the Movie Deaths yo.
Just check out this scene and tell me it doesn't ooze Final Destination. In this clip Mae Nak's ghost "protects" the couple from an unscrupulous real estate agent.......
Ouch! Pretty good for a low budget Thai film huh? Too bad the movie itself isn't very good. Want to watch an awesome, entertaining Thai film? 13 Beloved aka 13: Game of Death.......hell yeah.
The film is about a about a guy who is led through 13 progressively challenging, degrading, and dangerous tasks by a mysterious caller....The tasks? Well, for example, #3 is to make three children cry, #5? Eat a plate of feces served in a Chinese restaurant......yummy! Remake rights for the film were purchased by The Weinstein Company. Of course they were...

The Tripper - Reagan with a Chainsaw

The Tripper is a throwback to the old school slasher flicks of the 70's, full of horror clichés and buckets of red paint. The movie is about a psychopath in a Ronald Reagan mask who has a strong dislike for dirty hippies. Our psycho killer is in luck because the "Free Love Festival" is in town, a dirty hippie haven. There are a few off-screen deaths that would’ve been nice to see, but the best scene goes to the demise of Paul Reubens. Bisected vertically with a chainsaw by our Ronald Reagan killer.
Check out this great promotional poster for the movie, the release date of the film was on April 20, or 4/20.

Saw V - Pendulum Trap and Making of Featurette

From the Unrated Director's Cut, this is one of the more gruesome traps from the Saw series. The Pendulum Trap consists of a giant pendulum blade that swings down from the ceiling and two hand crushing mechanisms with switches inside that could potentially release the victim. The guy does as the video tells him and crushes his hands, but the locks don't release him. The pendulum swings down and violently cuts him in half. Just before he dies, he sees an eye watching him through a hole in the wall and whispers "I did what I was supposed to do." Seconds later the locks release....
The video below is an interesting making-of featurette of the Pendulum Trap. See how they accomplished this gory scene using a little movie magic.

Waxwork - Werewolf Head Split
There are certain movie monsters that stick with you throughout your childhood causing a slight fear of the dark and years of bad dreams. Linda Blair in the Exorcist has put hundreds of kids into therapy and if you look back now, she is still creepy as hell. Not so much can be said about other movie monsters.....
Take the Wolfman for example from the very underrated 1988 film Waxwork. Scared the crap out of me as a child, but when I look back at it now, it just might be one of the worst werewolf costumes ever. The Werewolf itself doesn't really look all that bad, maybe it's the lifeless eyes or the comically over-sized ears that make him look like a giant wolf-rabbit. Still.....I will take bad costumed Werewolves over bad CGI Werewolves anyday of the week, especially if they deliver the bloody goodness....
....and the Waxwork Werewolf DOES deliver. In the most impressive death scene of the movie, our victim hits the Werewolf with a chair. Not a good idea, as it only pisses him off. The wolf dusts himself off before grabbing the bastard's head and violently tearing it in half vertically.

Goemon - Hong-man Choi Splits
Director Kazuaki Kiriya effortlessly oozes out an amazing visual style in his films. Kiriya who wrote, directed, and edited the live action sci-fi film Casshern, pushes the stylistic envelope with his newest film, Geomon. The movie tells the story of folk legend Goemon Ishikawa, a bandit hero who stole valuables from the rich and gave them to the poor. The movie is full of amazing action sequences and imagery that are heavily anime-esque, leaving you stuck in your seat. In this scene our hero Goemon takes on Gao, played by K-1 giant Choi Hong-man. After a couple close calls from Gao's ridiculously large sword, Geomon slides under his legs then proceeds to slice him up the middle, causing his body to slice in half in Takashi Miike fashion.

Gladiator - Female Archer Splits
In a recreation of the Battle of Zama (in the film they call it the Battle of Carthage), Maximus leads Proximo's gladiators against a more powerful force dressed as Roman Legionnaires. The fight gets pretty bloody with plenty of great death scenes, but one fatality seems to stand out the most and make you yell out "gotcha bitch!" One of the chariots-equipped with wheel blades- gets flipped by Maximus and his men, sending a female archer to the ground. At the same time the driver of another chariot is killed, veering it toward our fallen victim. She raises her hands up and screams out before she is split in twain by the razor sharp wheel blades.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End - Kimberly Splits
----That time of the month again Kim?
Spoiled celebrity cunt Kimberly(Kimberly Caldwell) is running late for her appearance on the newest reality TV show, "Apocalypse: Ultimate Survivalist". Well wouldn't you know it, she makes a wrong turn and while complaining to her agent on the phone, she accidentally hits someone. She goes to check on the pedestrian, unaware that he's a mutated cannibal........Oh snap! Let the fun begin
Three-Finger must be a pro at the whole killing thing because she gets sliced perfectly in half. Either that or the axes are extra sharp when it's direct-to-video.

Let The Right One In - The Pool Scene

Sometimes the best horror is what your mind sees and not your eyes. The same goes for movie deaths, an off-screen death can be just as effective if not more than seeing it happen. Take this scene from Let The Right One In for example, little Oskar is a 12-year-old-boy who is constantly bullied at school. He befriends a mysterious child, Eli, who turns out to be a vampire. The moral of the story is...don't fuck with a vampire's best friend.

Dark Ride - Splitting Headache
This scene from Dark Ride is a great homage to Takashi Miike's Ichi The Killer. The 2006 film was selected to play at the 8 Films To Die For film festival. The movie stars Jamie-Lynn Sigler(Meadow from Sopranos). All you need to know about plot are three words: teenagers, amusement park, and psychopath (I guess that's four words). movie

Final Destination 2 - Cut to Pieces

A great scene from Final Destination 2. Poor Rory is just snorting some coke, when all of a sudden a fence comes flying out of nowhere and cuts him to pieces. Classic!

Resident Evil - Slice & Diced
Great scene from Resident Evil, I think Roger Ebert even liked it. But he does bring up a good point. Here an excerpt from his review in the Chicago Tribune.
"There is one neat effect when characters unwisely venture into a corridor and the door slams shut on them. Then a laser beam passes at head level, decapitating one. Another beam whizzes past at waist level, cutting the second in two while the others duck. A third laser pretends to be high but then switches to low, but the third character outsmarts it by jumping at the last minute. Then the fourth laser turns into a grid that dices its victim into pieces the size of a Big Mac. Since the grid is inescapable, what were the earlier lasers about? Does the corridor have a sense of humor?"
