Romeo Must Die - X-RAY Head Kick

As with many formulaic fights, it usually starts out pretty even. The protagonist and antagonist exchange a couple well choreographed punches and kicks. Soon the villain gains the upper hand through some dirty trick and the hero proceeds to get his ass kicked. But on the verge of defeat, the good guy gets a sudden burst of adrenaline and defeats the evildoer. Well this fight is exactly like that, BUT! This one happens to have a pretty good movie death to end it.

An ode to Sonny Chiba in The Street Fighter perhaps? When Russell Wong gets his head kicked in, we get a computer generated image of his head and spinal column shattering. In The Street Fighter, After getting a bad guy on his knees, Sonny jumps and punches him directly on top of the head- the scene then cuts to an X-RAY VIEW of the dude's head getting bashed in. Two very similar and epic scenes.

See No Evil - Jacob's Death

The problem now is that every movie has to "leave it open" for a sequel. Thus, giving us half assed movie deaths where we aren't sure if the villain is dead or not. The film See No Evil says the hell with that and gives its antagonist a creative and brutal death.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back - Force Choke

A classic and very memorable scene. Darth Vader shows us why you never fail him, at the same time he gives Admiral Piett a promotion, all before Ozzel's body even hits the ground. Our tragic hero shows us a glimpse of his mastery of the Force while stressing his impatience and ruthlessness. The best part is the look of the guy sitting behind Ozzel after he falls to the ground. Priceless.

Top 3 Deaths We Never See

The death scene is a time honored tradition of the movies. Except this list isn't celebrating the art of dismembered limbs and exploding craniums. The following movie deaths are so iconic that they don't even have to be shown. Here are the top 3 off screen death scenes.


3. Thelma & Louise - The car drives over the edge of the canyon and film ends with a freeze frame of the car in mid-air. We never see girls crash into the rocks below, but we don't need to. Would've been epic though.





2. Fargo - Carl played by Steve Buscemi, is murdered by Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare) with an axe, but the screen cuts to black right before the magic happens. It’s more Carl’s messy ‘burial’ involving a wood-chipper that is the trademark of this film more than his death.





1. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - Butch (Paul Newman) and Sundance (Robert Redford) both wounded and surrounded by 100 soldiers of the Bolivian cavalry, burst through the door to face an essential firing squad. The film ends with a freeze frame sepia tone shot of the pair exiting the house firing their guns, accompanied by the sound of dozens of rifles being fired. It’s not only one of the most compelling death scenes, but one of the most iconic moments in cinema history.

Tsunami - Close Calls

A scene from the 2009 South Korean disaster film Tsunami. After a megatsunami hits the city of Haeundae, Dong-choon finds himself under a cargo ship stuck on the Gwangan Bridge. A cable snaps, narrowly missing Dong-choon, sending a bystander flying through the air (we see her faintly in the background falling back down). Dong-choon runs around in panic as cargo containers fall violently around him, crushing people. A handful of good death scenes from an above average disaster film with heart and one of the best actors in the business, Kyung-gu Sol. Can't go wrong.
