mythbusters proved this scene to be impossible...oh well.
Actually, Mythbusters proved it was impossible with a wire that snapped. I believe this wire was anchored on both ends and under considerable tension. We'll have to wait for them to test this movie myth.
I'm Not Sure They Need To Test It, yes It Was Anchored At Both Ends And Under A lot Of Tension. But Considering How Much It Had To Go Through I'm Not Really All To Sure This Would Be In Any Way Possible. Through One Person I'm Not Sure....But Through...How Many People Were There? 20? 30? I Don't Think It Could. Sever Bruising Aye, But Clean Cuts Through All Of Them? I'd Doubt It, But What Ever, It's A Movie. And I Laughed At This Scene, The Girls Shocked Expression Was Priceless.

While it is possible to cut someone in half with a wire, you can't cut through that many people, also the wineglass wouldn't have a clean cut like that with a 1/4 in wire. That and the angles of the captain vs. everyone else was wrong.
