There's somewhat of tired formula for the death-by-fall scene. It usually starts with a shot of person being thrown off a ledge, cut to stuntman falling for a couple seconds, then cut to a reaction shot of a spectator upon impact. It's been done and quite frankly, it's a little boring. One of the first people to add something to the fall scene was Hitchcock. In the 1942 film Saboteur, we see a character slipping and falling off the Statue of Liberty, all in one amazing shot. Just another reason why Hitchcock was way ahead of his time. The creativity of the fall scene has largely diminished. Which is why scenes like this clip from the Hong Kong film Protégé is a breath of fresh air. Andy Lau plays as an undercover agent(he does it so well) getting raided by the cops, the only way out and the only way to keep his cover is by escaping out the back. Only problem is........ they're about 15 storeys high.
