Stepfather 3 - Into the Chipper

First off, let me apologize for my absence. I've been working on a new website...wait for it....PLUG (the website is dead now) and Shmoogle Adsense has forced me to remove their ads from here. The passion for Greatest Movie Deaths is still there, but as you can imagine it's not what it used to be. But we shall press on! There's still Great Movie Deaths that need to be seen!

Our first entry into the Wood Chipper Movie Death Hall of Fame goes to the 1992 film Stepfather III. It's the worst film of the trilogy, but it just might have the best death scene of the three. You may remember the first Stepfather film starred Terry O'Quinn, who played John Locke on the TV series Lost. Terry O'Quinn actually was great in the role in the original Stepfather. The sequels on the other hand.... well let's just say they deserve the same fate as our victim here.

In this scene little Andy is being chased through plant nursery by his evil stepfather. When the stepfather climbs a ladder to look for him, Andy knocks him off it and into a wood chipper. The guy's hamburger meat right? Nope, he pops out of the wood chipper and almost drags Andy in. But mom comes just in time to pull Andy out of the bad guy's grasp before he's chewed up(very violently I may add) and splattered against the wall.

Greatest Deaths by Wood Chipper

You can never get enough wood chipper deaths. They're just so damn entertaining. Problem is that there just aren't very many GREAT ones. Perhaps the most famous death-by-chipper is from the 1996 Coen brothers film Fargo, but that's a big misconception. Carl (played by Steve Buscemi)is murdered by Gaear (Peter Stormare) with an axe, not a wood chipper. So unfortunately it doesn't count. That's why this week we'll be exploring some of the best deaths by wood chipper in cinema history.

Drive - Elevator Face Stomp

“The best kind of cinema is the one where action is long and dialogue short.” – John Ford

Drive isn’t your typical high-energy heist movie with explosions everywhere or witty one-liners every other line of conversation. The dialogue is actually quite sparse, as is the feel for the rest of the movie. Long moments of silence and little action are punctuated by moments of really brutal action that are emphasized by really on-point sound effects. It makes for an almost dreamlike experience.

The film also has an amazing 80s-esque synth soundtrack impeccably integrated into the film along with really solid acting all around. The story itself isn’t anything overly original, but they way it’s all put together is brilliant. The movie is easily one of the best films of the year and the hero may very well be one of the most badass characters in years. This scene simply doesn't do the film justice. Go watch and support this movie!

The Good the Bad and the Ugly - Shoot! Don't Talk

Don't you just hate it when the bad guy has the hero in his sights, but instead of killing him immediately he rambles on about his plans for world domination? It just may be the biggest movie cliche ever and Sergio Leone knew it....

Shark Night 3D (2011) - Jet Ski Escape

Poor Blake thought he could get away on a jet ski, but he didn't account for a giant great white shark to breach from the lake and pluck him off the jet ski. One of the highlight from the disappointing Shark Night 3D.

Final Destination 5 - Bridge Collapse Scene

Say what you will about the Final Destination films, but there is never a lack of great death scenes in those movies. The newest is no exception. The bridge scene was surprisingly well done, better than the previous two film's "vision disasters." One highlight is the death of Peter(Miles Fisher). As he's hanging onto a railing of the collapsing bridge, a truck full of construction materials rolls backwards above him. Suddenly a jolt from the bridge causes some rebar to fall out of the truck impaling Peter before he splatters onto the concrete substructure below.

I Saw the Devil - Car Stabbing Scene

If you haven’t seen I Saw The Devil yet, stop whatever you’re doing and go watch it(after reading this post of course). The movie is simply amazing. The film stars two of Korea’s most successful actors, Choi Min-sik and Lee Byung-hun, stars of the aforementioned films Oldboy and A Bittersweet Life respectively. The movie is directed by Kim Ji-woon and his resume speaks for itself: A Tale of Two Sisters, The Good, the Bad, the Weird, The Quiet Family, and The Foul King. The movie is a breath of fresh air from the predictable rehashes of Hollywood films. Do yourself a favor and watch it. This is probably one of the coolest scenes in the film, our antagonist turns a couple guys into human pin cushions.

I don't know what it is about Sean Bean and the roles he takes. Maybe he likes playing the tragic hero. I don't know, but the man certainly knows how to die. The Mummy - The Mummy Kills

The Mummy came out in 1999 and was very successful. A little bit Indiana Jones and a little old school monster movie. The film was entertaining, funny, and sometimes even dark. In this clip we see Mr. Henderson(Stephen Dunham), a grave robber, killed by Imhotep(Arnold Vosloo) in order to regenerate his body using CGI and our imaginations.

Brain Damage - Brain Sucking Blowjob

Now that I have your attention.....Brain Damage is the story of Brian, who wakes up one day to find a slug-shaped parasite named Aylmer attached to his body. Aylmer injects Brian's brain with a highly addictive, hallucinogenic fluid that makes him super happy. In exchange for the euphoria, Brian helps feeds Aylmer's appetite for human brains......

The movie is a lot of fun. The dialog is above average and the parasite Aylmer is a hilarious yet smooth talking character. Take into account that the film is basically a metaphor for drug addiction and we have ourselves a surprisingly good 80's horror comedy. In this scene Aylmer persuades Brian to go out where they meet a promiscuous woman who gets a mouthful......

Repo Man - What You Got In The Trunk?

In the midst of all this Charlie Sheen madness, poor Emilio Estevez still can't win. Internet jokes like THIS one, THIS one, or THIS one prove that no matter how insane or out of control Charlie becomes, Emilio will always live in his shadow. But there is one movie that shoots Emilio past his younger brother in the cult classic category, no...... not Judgment Night, I'm talking about the 1984 film Repo Man.

Call it what you want, a satire, a punk film, a black comedy, or an anti-society film. This film spoke to a whole generation during the Regan era and can still be relevant in today's society of war, capitalism, and television.

Totall Recall - Midget Hooker of Death

By now you've probably heard that the remake of Total Recall starring Colin Ferrell is set to shoot this May. Most fans are losing their minds, I mean how can they recreate the magic of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Ironside mixed with non-stop Sci-Fi action and extreme violence? You can't, but you sure can try.......

The new film will be based more closely to the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember it for You Wholesale." So it will be going in a different direction(although not much different), which is good. But one thing the new version will never have is Mary, the triple-breasted mutant prostitute and of course Thumbelina, the midget hooker of death.

In this scene, Richter(Michael Ironside) and his henchmen visit Venusville's most popular hangout The Last Resort to violently look for Quaid(Arnold Schwarzenegger). As a riot breaks out, Thumbelina grabs a giant knife and charges toward Helm(Michael Champion), Richter's geeky henchman. She stabs him in the gut, killing him then proceeds to get on top of the bar with a machine gun and kick ass. (This scene was created to secure the R-rating, in the original version she stabs the guy in the groin, then carves an incision all the way up to his chest, basically gutting him.)

Ricochet - Blake Get's the Point

Ahh the early 90's, such a great time for action movies. Total Recall, Terminator 2, Hard Boiled, Die Hard 2, Universal Soldier, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, Under Siege, Speed, and many more. The heroes, the one-liners, and of course......the Movie Deaths. Some are etched into action movie history while others are forgotten, never to be heard of again. Ricochet is one of those films.....

The film stars Denzel Washington as Nicholas Styles, a Los Angeles attorney who puts a vicious killer, Earl Talbot Blake (John Lithgow) in prison when he was previously a cop. Blake has now escaped and is out for revenge.

The film is violent, over the top, and sometimes just downright hilarious(click HERE to watch all the hilarious one-liners)...Washington does a great job as usual, but John Lithgow steals the show here as he puts on a great performance as a ruthless psychotic killer. This film is an absolutely excellent popcorn action thriller that should not be forgotten.

In this clip, our hero and villain fight atop the Watts Towers. As Blake gets the upper hand, Styles' childhood friend Odessa (Ice-T) appears and connects electrical mains to the metal tower, electrifying Blake and sending him off the tower. Blake falls and lands on a protruding spike, impaling and killing him. Followed by another classic one-liner.

Tormented - Definitely Too Late

Tormented is the story of a fat unpopular student who was teased by all the cool kids in school. To escape the bullying he commits suicide and then comes back from the dead to exact revenge on the students who made his life hell. Real original eh? Who cares, people die in it right? Good enough for me...

In this scene, designated school bitch Tasha(April Pearson) is running away from the ghost(or zombie, I'm not really sure) of Mullet, the....ah geez 'Tormented' student who just castrated her boyfriend after having.....get this...safe sex. Kind of redundant now isn't it? Anyway, she falls into an open grave and in a desperate attempt to save her own ass confesses her love to him and says, "I would have gone out with you... maybe it's not too late?"........and queue the killer zombie ghost.

Tormented is like if Skins(UK version) and The Rage: Carrie 2 had a baby, then urinated on it. Not very good, but at least some of the death scenes were decent.

Tokyo Gore Police - Face Rip

Oh boy, where do I begin? First off, not all Japanese films are like this and not all Japanese people like these kind of movies. This is the same country that gave us Akira Kurosawa, Yasujiro Ozu, and Kenji Mizoguchi; Japanese directors who have created some of the most critically acclaimed films off all time. Just like in America, there are different subgenres of horror that deliberately focus on graphic portrayals of gore and violence. We here in the States call it a 'splatter' or 'gore film'. Not everyone's cup of tea(though this film is actually received well by critics), but it's right up Greatest Movie Death's alley and today we give praise to the Japanese Gore genre with a scene from Tokyo Gore Police.

The film is set in a futuristic and chaotic Japan where a virus that mutates humans into monstrous creatures called "Engineers" has been released. The virus causes bizarre weapons to sprout from any injury. Our heroine Ruka is helping the police force in order to find her father's killer. In this clip we see Riku take out a bad guy with her newly equipped claw-hand.


This clip is actually pretty tame compared to other classic scenes from the movie, like gator girl, Penis Cannon, amputee ninja, and many more to come...
