The Burning - Raft Massacre Scene

This notorious scene stands out as one of the most gruesome of the 80's slasher films. Tom Savini was in top form when he created this famous massacre in The Burning. An underrated classic that luckily did not go down the road in having 7 sequels and a remake(even though it is itself considered a "ripoff" of Friday the 13th). The scene is not dark or shadowy, it's a straight up mass murder in the daytime aided and abetted by the gore FX of Tom Savini.

Friday the 13th Part III - Harpoon to the Eye

In this scene, our helpless female victim is wading waste deep in Crystal Lake after dropping a wallet in the water. The girl spots Jason from afar and mistakes him for her prankster friend Shelly. Making excellent use of the film's 3-D gimmickry, Jason shoots a harpoon straight at the camera — and into Vera's left eye socket.

Jaws 2 - The Sacrificial Hero

It's a pretty overused formula now, but always good for a great movie death:

Child is in imminent danger, hero saves child, but hero is suddenly killed in the process, child screams.

In this scene from Jaws 2, after the giant shark brings down a helicopter, everybody panics and little Sean falls into the water. Our hero Marge(Martha Swatek) quickly goes into the water and heaves him onto a floating hull, but the shark devours her before she can pull herself up.

Marge has joined the many characters throughout cinematic history know as the "Sacrificial Hero"

King Kong Lives - King Kong Eats

Scene from the not-so-popular 1986 film King Kong Lives. I don't know why it wasn't as popular as the classic?(Well maybe I do, but for the sake of argument just go with me). Maybe it was the plot, King Kong getting a computer-monitored artificial heart IS a little far fetched. Maybe it was the way Kong looked......

Or maybe it was because of scenes like this....

300 - Astinos' Decapitation

Astinos, son of Captain Artemis meets his glorious demise. Actually it wasn't that glorious since it doesn't occur during battle, but like 5 minutes afterward. As you can guess Artemis wasn't too happy about it.

The Towering Inferno - Death Scenes

The Towering Inferno was a well done(no pun intended) disaster film from 1974. The movie puts two big fears together, fire and heights. That combination is always good for a movie death or two. The Towering Inferno has plenty. Oh, and OJ Simpson is in it too, so yeah, epic.

ELEVATOR EXPLOSION

In this scene, as guests try to flee down the scenic elevator, an explosion blows the lift off track. One unlucky heroine falls to her death.

LORRIE'S DEATH

In this scene, Dan Bigelow(Robert Wagner) and his secretary(Susan Flannery) are both killed. Poor Lorrie breaks a window and gets blown out by a fireball.

The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc - Giant Balls and Spinning Things

The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc is full of violent battles with graphic movie deaths, but a few unique ones stood out the most. In one scene, soldiers drop boulder-sized balls down chutes that lead outside of their fort, smashing into soldiers. One poor bastard goes head-on with one and gets blasted backwards.

Another great death comes to an unsuspecting soldier climbing a ladder. As the soldier gets to the top, a giant rotating defensive apparatus decapitates him in a bloody mess.

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight - Death Punch

As Sheriff Tupper and Deputy Bob are about to take the Collector(Billy Zane) into custody, he punches the sheriff in the face, driving his fist right through his head. Never mess with a high-level demon that looks like Billy Zane wearing a cowboy hat. They're dangerous.

Knowing - Plane Crash Scene

This scene from the Nicholas Cage film Knowing almost makes up for having to sit through the whole thing. A nearly 3 minute continuous single tracking shot that will keep your eyes glued to the screen. Truly one of the greatest plane crashes ever filmed.

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday - Safe Sex

While our couple is engaging in premarital sex, Jason ruins the moment by thrusting a tent stake through Debbie's chest and slicing her up the middle. What's funny is that before having sex our couple decided not to use a condom. IRONY!

The Wicker Man - Ending

Ending to the 1973 film The Wicker Man, where we find out that Sergeant Neil Howie IS the sacrifice. The revelation that the whole film had been building up to this final scene makes it one of the greatest deaths, quite shocking on first viewing.
