Watchmen Opening - The Comedian Shot JFK

I knew it wasn't Oswald!

Even if it was for only 22 seconds, the graphic recreation of Kennedy's assassination was pretty amazing. The whole opening really sets the tone of the film and Bob Dylan's song just makes the sequence complete. In the graphic novel. It is implied that the Comedian shot JFK and possibly even Woodward and Bernstein. Snyder took the brilliant little throwaway joke and translated it onscreen. The scene was just so epic that it deserves its own post.

Compared to the Zapruder film

JFK ASSASSINATION RECREATION

There's a ton of Easter Eggs in the Watchmen opening, Did you catch Mick Jagger and David Bowie outside of Studio 54? How about the original Nite Owl saving Mr. and Mrs. Wayne? That's why Batman never existed in the "Watchmen" universe..
Go to i09.com for a look at all the awesome Easter Eggs

  1. Hi there!

I don't know if anyone will read this, but I noticed in the picture of Nite Owl "saving Batman's parents" that there are posters of the number 27 issue of Detective Comics, which was Batman's first appearance in a comic. So if Nite Owl saved Bruce Wayne's parents...why are there posters for Batman? Just wondering, I don't want to start an argument or anything : )

    Cheers!
    Sara.

  2. The JFK scene wasn't epic. This movie and it's director are full of themselves. The JFK assassination was a tragedy, not a film clip for a shit movie.
The same goes for avatar's twin tower destruction scene. Americas worst moments are not to be scenes/backdrops in movies. This is like comparing oneself to jesus/god. So fuck you Snyder and Cameron.
